Privacy Policy
Chorelus collects no data. It has no accounts of its own, no servers, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party SDKs. The family’s data is kept in iCloud, in the account of the parent who created the family, and is shared only with the people that parent invites. The developer receives nothing about you or your family.
What Chorelus records
- The family: its name, whether rewards are counted in francs or in stars, how long after a chore’s time a child may still tick it, and the first name of the parent who created it.
- For each child: a first name, an avatar (an initial, an emoji or a photo, and a colour), the weekly pocket money budget, the days marked Sick / on holiday, and the iCloud address of their Apple Account with the identifier iCloud gives that account.
- For each additional parent: a first name, and the iCloud address of their Apple Account with its iCloud identifier.
- The chores and extras: title, emoji, colour, days, reminder time, which children they are for and, for an extra, what it pays.
- Each chore ticked off: the chore, the child, the day and time, a copy of the chore’s title and value, and the parent’s first name when a parent ticked it.
- Each finished week: for each child, what was due, what was done and what was earned.
- For notifications: each new chore waiting to be announced to a child, and whether notifications are set up and allowed on each child’s and parent’s iPhone.
iCloud
Everything above is stored in Apple’s CloudKit, in the private database of the parent who created the family, where it counts towards that parent’s iCloud storage. It reaches the other members’ devices through iCloud sharing. This data lives in iCloud: the developer cannot see or access it. Apple stores it under its own privacy policy. Chorelus needs iCloud to work.
Sharing with your family
The parent who created the family invites each child and each additional parent by the iCloud address of their Apple Account. Only those accounts can open the family’s link. Every member then receives, through their own iCloud account, all of the family’s data described above: every child’s chores, ticks, pocket money, diamonds, Sick / on holiday days and avatar, and the members’ iCloud addresses. Children see each other’s chores. iCloud gives every member the same read and write access to that data; Chorelus decides on screen what children may change.
To take the family away from a child’s iPhone, the parent clears the iCloud address on the child’s page in Family, saves, and confirms with Remove if asked. Remove … from the family deletes a child’s page; the chores the child already did stay in the history. An additional parent is removed from their row under Parents, with Remove … from the family. Chorelus has no button to leave a family: a child or an additional parent asks the parent who created it.
Notifications
Chorelus asks for permission to send notifications on the parents’ and children’s iPhones.
- Chore reminders, and the weekly reminder to pay the pocket money, are notifications scheduled on the device itself.
- When a child ticks a chore, iCloud alerts the parent who created the family through Apple’s push notification service, with the child’s first name and the chore’s title. An additional parent’s iPhone shows the same alert itself, when the tick arrives from iCloud. I’m away turns these alerts off on that phone only.
- To tell a child about a new chore, the child’s iPhone keeps a small notification inbox in the child’s own iCloud account and shares it with the parents. A parent’s iPhone places the new chore’s title there, and iCloud alerts the child. These notices are deleted after 48 hours.
- iCloud also sends the app silent notifications to tell it that something changed; they show nothing.
Photos
To give a child a photo, you choose one in the system photo picker or, on devices that offer it, create one with Image Playground. Chorelus receives only that image, reduces it to at most 512 × 512 pixels and stores it as the child’s avatar, which every member of the family sees. Chorelus does not use the camera, your contacts or your location.
Data stored on your device
Chorelus keeps on each device a copy of the family’s data and a few settings of its own: which member of the family the device belongs to, the I’m away switch, and on the iPhone of the parent who created the family, the time of the payout reminder and the weeks already marked Paid. Those last two are also kept in that parent’s own iCloud key-value storage, so that they come back after a reinstall; they are never shared with the family. Deleting the app removes its copy from the device; the family’s data stays in iCloud.
Exporting the log
Export the log creates a text file with the app’s technical log for its current launch, the app version, the system version and the device model. Chorelus only creates the file; you choose where it goes, for example in an email to the developer when you ask for help.
Deleting your data
The parent can delete a chore with Delete the chore, an extra with Delete, and a child with Remove … from the family. Ticks and finished weeks are the family’s history: Chorelus keeps them, with the copies of names and titles they carry, after a chore or a child is deleted. To delete everything, the parent who created the family deletes Chorelus’s data from iCloud in the device’s Settings, under their name, iCloud, then the list of apps using iCloud storage.
Children
Chorelus is set up by a parent, who enters each child’s first name and iCloud address. The children’s data stays within the family, in iCloud, and the developer receives none of it.
Crash reports
If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple may send the developer anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. They do not identify you.

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new effective date.
