Chorelus
Chorelus organises a family’s household chores. A parent sets out who does what and when, each child ticks off their chores on their own iPhone, and the week’s pocket money follows from what was done. The whole family works on the same data, shared through iCloud.
Features
- Chores for one child, for each child or for some of them, on the days you choose, with a reminder time.
- Extras: one-off chores that pay an amount to the first child who does them.
- A weekly pocket money budget for each child, earned by doing their chores, with the extras on top. Or stars instead of francs.
- Diamonds for every day on which a child did all of their chores.
- Sick or holiday days that cost the child nothing.
- Notifications: a reminder at the chore’s time, an alert to the parents when a child finishes a chore, and an alert to the child when a new chore is added for them.
- A weekly reminder to pay the pocket money, at the time you choose.
- Each child picks an avatar: an initial, an emoji or a photo.
- A second parent, or a grandparent, can join and look after the chores too.
- Available in French, English, German and Italian.
Questions
Do I need iCloud?
Yes. Everyone in the family uses Chorelus with their own Apple Account, signed in to iCloud. The family is kept in the iCloud account of the parent who creates it and reaches the others through iCloud. Chorelus also works offline: what is ticked without a connection is sent when iCloud is reachable again.
How do I set up the family?
On your iPhone, choose Create a family and add your children, then choose Turn on family sharing in the Family tab. On each child’s page, enter the iCloud address of their Apple Account, then choose Send the link to … to send them the invitation. Only the accounts you added can open it. Install Chorelus on the child’s iPhone before sending the link; on that iPhone, choose I received an invitation and open the link. The phone then recognises who it belongs to: there is nothing to type and no code.
My child’s iPhone says “This phone isn’t recognised yet”
Check that the address on the child’s page in Family is the address of their Apple Account, the one signed in to iCloud on their iPhone. The phone checks again every time new data arrives from iCloud.
How do I add a second parent?
In Family, under Parents, choose Add a parent and enter their first name and iCloud address, then send them the family link with Send the family link. They can edit the chores and tick them off for the children, like you, and get the same alerts. Paying the pocket money, sharing and adding or removing children stay with you. When they are away, I’m away silences Chorelus on their phone.
Why can my child no longer tick a chore?
A child can tick a chore only on the day itself, and only until some time after the chore’s reminder time. You choose that delay in Family with Lock after, from 2 hours up to Until midnight. After that, a parent can still tick it for them.
How do I remove someone from the family?
To take the family away from a child’s iPhone, clear the iCloud address on the child’s page, save, and confirm with Remove if asked: their phone loses access to the family. Remove … from the family deletes the child’s page; the chores they already did stay in the history. To remove a parent, open their row under Parents and choose Remove … from the family.
Something is not working
Write to me, and if you can, attach the log: in Family, under Support (in Settings on a child’s iPhone), choose Export the log, then share the file. It covers only the app’s current launch, so export it right after the problem happened.
