Privacy Policy
Ça va? collects no data. It has no accounts of its own, no servers, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party SDKs. What you record is kept in your own iCloud account and is visible only to you and to the people you choose to share with. The developer receives nothing about you.
What Ça va? records
- For each person: a name, the day their week starts on and, if you add one, a photo.
- For each report: the feeling and the part of the day, or a note; the date, time and time zone; your name as its author; and, only if you attach it, a location and the name of the place.
- Your reminders: which person, on which days and at what time.
- Your name, which you enter when you first open the app.
iCloud
Everything above is stored in your iCloud account, in Apple’s CloudKit private database, and is synchronized between your devices. Your name is also kept in your iCloud key-value storage, so that it comes back if you reinstall the app. This data lives in your iCloud account: the developer cannot see or access it. Apple stores it under its own privacy policy. Ça va? needs iCloud to work.
Sharing with your family
When you choose Share with Family for a person, the people you invite see, through their own iCloud accounts, everything about that person: the name, the week start, the photo and all of their reports, with the notes, the authors’ names, and the locations and place names attached to them. That includes the reports added before and after the invitation. You decide for each person invited whether they can only view or also add reports. Your reminders and your quick-log location setting are never shared.
To remove someone or stop sharing, open the person, choose Edit Person, then Manage Sharing. If a person has been shared with you, choose Leave in the same place: the person disappears from your list, and the owner keeps all the reports.
Location
Ça va? uses your location only to add where you were to a report, and only when you ask for it:
- When you write a report, turning on Attach Location asks for permission to use your location while the app is in use, then adds your current position to that report.
- Add location to quick logs, in Reminders, is off by default and applies to this device only. When it is on and location access is set to Always, a report logged from a reminder, a widget, Siri or Shortcuts gets your current position when it is saved, even if the app is not open.
Ça va? reads your position once, when a report is saved; it never tracks you. The position (its coordinates, with the accuracy, altitude, speed, heading and time your device reports with them) and the name of the place are stored in the report. Like the rest of the report, they are synchronized through your iCloud account, visible to everyone the person is shared with, and included when you export reports. To find the name of the place, Ça va? sends the coordinates to Apple’s Maps service; the small map shown with a report also comes from Apple Maps. You can decline or revoke location access in Settings; the rest of the app works without it.
Photos
To give a person a photo, you choose one in the system photo picker. Ça va? receives only the photo you pick, reduces it and stores it as that person’s photo in iCloud, where the people the person is shared with see it too.
Notifications, widgets and Siri
Reminders are notifications scheduled on your device. iCloud also sends the app silent notifications to tell it that something changed; they contain no report. To show people in its widgets and to offer them to Siri and Shortcuts, Ça va? keeps on your device a summary of the people you can see, with their names, photos and recent feelings. The widgets mark them as private, so that iOS can hide them while your device is locked.
Exporting reports
Export Reports creates a file with a person’s name, week start and reports, including notes, authors and locations. Ça va? only creates the file; you choose where it goes.
Data stored on your device
Ça va? keeps on your device a copy of the data it synchronizes, the changes not yet sent to iCloud and its settings, which are included in your own device backups. Data from the earlier version of the app also stays on the device: Ça va? leaves it untouched. Deleting the app removes its copy from the device; your data stays in iCloud.
Deleting your data
Delete a report from the day it was recorded on. To delete a person you created, choose Edit Person, then Delete: this removes the person and all of their reports from iCloud, for everyone they are shared with.
Crash reports
If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple may send the developer anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. They do not identify you.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new effective date.
